For those of you who have not received a postcard and are not facebook whores:
I have an art show up in a gallery a few blocks away from my apartment here in Boston. The artist's reception is next Saturday, January 26, and I would love to have any of you up to visit that weekend or any other weekend throughout February in order to see you and for you to see it. There will be wine, fruit and cheese at the reception, and if you're visiting, I will promise banana chocolate chip pancakes or any other pancakes of your choice for breakfast during your stay.
For images/directions: http://www.muskatstudios.com http://www.ideacrank.net
If any of you in CT can schedule some kind of car trip up one weekend, I'm sure I can accommodate sleeping arrangements for a whole bunch of people at once. In fact, it'd probably be even more fun!
Much love to you all, and I really hope to see you or at least hear from you. If you send me your address, I can also send you a blank postcard-sized print, if you're interested, but you can't come. :o)

I'm not a huge fan of the writing, but the existence of the article itself is good. And ::cheers:: That's m'boss!
M'work.

For the first three people who comment - and re-post - this challenge, I will send you something. It might be something I've made, or something cool from my hidden stash, it might be a mix CD - or a rubber duck, a book I think you will enjoy, or something else that is awesome. Whatever it is, I promise that I will get it to you in 30 days or less.
The only thing you need to do in order to participate is to be one of the first three to reply to this, AND post this very same thing on YOUR live journal* - 'cause its fun to give people stuff.
it looks like fun, so, you know, go ahead and comment
stolen from everythingisso

This is fascinating. I hadn't realized how much effort and money and emotional value went into these dolls - all I'd ever heard of had been the cheap blow-up ones. It'd be interesting to look at the connection between the focus on mythology and fantasy, escapism, difficulty with intimacy, need for personal control, and see how they fit together. Harry Potter and real sex dolls - part of the same phenomenon? Possibly, to some extent.

Perhaps to Nicca, 'cause she usually knows stuff like this. So I've been hearing a lot about the settlement in LA for the clergy abuse cases, with about 1.3 million going to each victim. Has there been any talk in this case or any other case about the money being donated or putting into a support fund for other abuse victims? I'm curious, because some of the comments I saw on the news about the money "not being nearly enough to heal the pain" bothered me, what with all the other people who are currently in abusive situations with no financial or emotional assistance; and I couldn't find anything online that talked about it.

Who's going to be around where Stratford Day weekend and if you're going, when?, 'cause I want to see you! Well, most of you. Juls...I can't hang out with you anymore, I'm sorry. It's the socks. PS. - Also, Friday night before - anyone interested in party/sleepover? I don't like sleeping at home much, but if I had other people... :o) PPS. Juls, I didn't mean it about the socks. They're quite lovely.

Frozen shrimp, thawed, sautéed in butter with fresh garlic, cayenne pepper and a dash of salt. When the shrimp are almost done, they're removed and broccoli's added with olive oil, more cayenne pepper and some garlic salt. When the broccoli's about done, the shrimp is added back in and maybe a tablespoon or two of lemon juice and sherry is added. This is all served over linguine.
I'm adding this somewhat for your sake but mostly so I won't forget it. It's essentially a scampi but improvised a bit.

I enjoy Mike Doughty live. I enjoy that he plays Sould Coughing songs I remember from middle school. I do not enjoy Tufts students at concerts. I do enjoy that Mike Doughty makes fun of stupid Tufts students at concerts. "And I'm sure when you said that, you thought it'd be funny. And I love you guys. Really. But no."

Also: I have a printing project coming up in which the image topic is Old Testament Bible stories. ::smile:: Any ideas?
One of my classes this upcoming semester will involve a fair amount of bible studying so I'm hoping I'll get some ideas from there. And I could always do something creation based. But I'd rather find something a bit more obscure. I was debating on doing something based on one of the "begot" sections but I don't know if that would traditionally count as a story.

 | You scored as The Rowan. In Celtic astrology, you're a Rowan tree. The animal symbol that accompanies this tree is the dragon. The ancient Druids say Rowan people have powerful imaginations and are idealistic, progressive, humanitarian, spiritual and good with change. However, Rowans may be prone to restlessness, quarreling, impatience or aloofness.

I want a massage. And some sleep. Oh, and Juls? I have your present. As well as happy birthday, in case you haven't gotten the awkward phone message. :o) I am very much afraid of oil paint. Apparently it eats your body from the outside in, so my teacher explained. Which only adds to the special place it holds in my heart - it is much fun, and yet I am discovering exactly how much I suck at painting. Photo and litho rock, however. Long live the crafty arts that involve specific formulas for how to do things. Although next week in oil, we're learning the rules of realism. Supposedly there's a very easy formula. And it only involves one color. I must admit, I'm intrigued.
PS. I've discovered that grad students are not necessarily smarter than I am. It's an interesting discovery. PpS. Kylen, I love you. ::hugs:: PppS. And Xen? You're one of the best, most amusing bad habits' friends a person could have.

So you know how sometimes you have a place to live for the summer? And then you don't? And then you find a place again? And you sort out classes. And find a job? And then suddenly find out that for two and a half weeks that you planned on have that roof over your head, you don't actually? And you don't get housing until a week after your classes start? Yeah, that sucks. But I've been offfered at least two different floors to sleep on. And Xen, if necessary, can I store my shit in your grandmother's house, do you think? It's not much...well, not *that* much. And Emily said she could probably take some of it.
erf. I hate it when things break right after you feel like you've finally gotten them put back together from the first time. And at least the job will hopefully be awesome. All hail working at the homeless shelter! Siiting around watching baseball with grumpy old men is better than fake smiles and leading tours around the campus any day. And the pay's better.
Love to you all.

(And also so I know I won't forget it)
Monday 2:00-5:00 Illustration 6:30-9:30 Beginning Graphic Design
Tuesday 9:00-5:00 Photo Foundations I
Wednesday 9:00-5:00 Litho in Color
Thursday 1:30-4:30 Housing Policy (Tufts Campus)
Friday 9:00-5:00 Oil Painting: The First Step
So the classes do kinda go all day, but aren't they awesome nonetheless? The Housing Policy one should be an interesting one to throw into the mix. It's a graduate class, so I'm a bit apprehensive, but it'll be my only reading/essay class, so I figure it'll be decently easy to handle.

haHA. I have written a story. This may seem relatively unimportent except for those who've been dealing with me for the past month or so. But, yes. I feel like I broke through something. Now, however, I am avoiding the dreaded going back and rereading it and seeing if it's actually any good part. I'm going to live up the accomplished feeling as long as possible.
